Why Prepare?

Being prepared can reduce fear, anxiety, and losses that accompany disasters. Communities, families, and individuals should know what to do in the event of a disaster [sic]. The need to prepare is real.

Disasters disrupt hundreds of thousands of lives every year. Each disaster has lasting effects, both to people and property.

You should also be ready to be self-sufficient for at least three days. This may mean providing for your own shelter, first aid, food, water, and sanitation.

Suggestion from CosasPrep:

  • Talk to people that have lived in Ecuador for a long time. Find out about how the government handled drought, earthquakes, and power shortages in the past. That way you won’t be surprised when the same situation happens again.
  • Make a SHTF list for your own particular needs. For example, if you need a certain medication, you should always have several months on hand, but if/when it becomes time to refer to your preparation list, you’ll REALLY want to stock up. Keep updating your list as thoughts occur to you.
